Week 5: On Track

It's week 5 out of 100! And the ethics essay is still a work in progress. I believe I made a mistake identifying the stakeholders, that part has been challenging, but I'm actively working on refining that aspect of the outline.

Reading about computer science internships taught me that they are a valuable stepping stone for launching a successful career. They provide hands-on experience in the field, and also open doors to networking opportunities and potential job offers.

I also learned that loaded words can be used to manipulate emotions and influence opinions, even in seemingly objective arguments. By recognizing loaded language and replacing it with neutral terms, I can better evaluate the validity of an argument based on evidence rather than emotional appeal.

Teammates Goals:

It was eye-opening to look at my teammates goals, It's interesting to see all the different paths we're on. Here is what my teammates wrote in their journals:

Capstone Ideas:
I'm interested in a machine learning capstone, I'm still exploring the possibilities and scope of what's achievable. Here are some ideas I have:

First idea: Early detection of bipolar manic episodes through natural language processing (NLP) and behavioral analysis. The project aims to create a mobile app that leverages NLP and behavioral analysis to identify early signs of manic episodes in people with bipolar disorder. The app would analyze data from text messages, social media posts, and maybe even phone call transcripts to detect changes in language patterns, emotional tone, and communication frequency that could indicate a manic episode. This project has the potential to make a real difference in the lives of people with bipolar disorder and their families.

Second idea: Smart energy management system for home automation using ML. Many appliances consume power when plugged in, even when not used. The idea aims to develop a smart energy management system that leverages machine learning algorithms to learn user behavior patterns and turn off unused appliances or adjust settings to optimize energy consumption in a home setting.

Third idea: Easy to use personal finance management system that does more than basic tracking and budgeting. By utilizing machine learning and AI, it will provide users with personalized insights, predictive analytics, and recommendations to optimize their financial health.
